Minji Kim, Esq

Ms. Minji Kim is a family law trial and appellate attorney and a founding member of Prosper Law PLLC with offices in Annandale, Virginia and Ellicott City, Maryland. Ms. Kim is admitted to practice law in Virginia (VA), the District of Columbia (D.C.), and Maryland (MD). 

Ms. Kim graduated from J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. During law school, Ms. Kim worked as a judicial extern for Judge Ted Stewart in the U.S. District Court for the District of Utah and for Justice Deno Himonas at the Utah Supreme Court. Also, Ms. Kim served as a Management Board member at the International Center for Law and Religion Studies. Ms. Kim is a member of the A. Sherman Christensen American Inn of Court I.

Before law school, Ms. Kim worked in both public and private sectors internationally. As a Vice-Chief of the Defence Staff Analyst at the Department of National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, Ms. Kim coordinated government projects and provided guidance on project approval and business planning to client groups including the Navy Infrastructure, Assistant Deputy Minister (Infrastructure and Environment), and Assistant Deputy Minister (Policy). Ms. Kim also worked in the international security relations and conducted a regular briefing to her chain of command including the Minister of National Defence.

Ms. Kim began her legal career in Washington, D.C. Subsequently, she joined Kublan Khan PLC in Falls Church, VA, where she focused her practice on immigration law and all aspects of family law matters. She then joined Cook Craig Francuzenko PLLC in Fairfax, VA, where she practiced family law, immigration law and civil litigation including contract disputes, real estate, and landlord-tenant matters.

Ms. Kim does appellate practice in both state and federal courts. She has successfully advocated for an immigrant spouse’s rights for equitable distribution and spousal support at the Court of Appeals of Virginia.

In addition to her service within the legal community, Ms. Kim provides weekly legal clinics and frequent legal seminars on a variety of topics at the Korean Community Service Center of Greater Washington (KCSC) in Annandale, VA and in Gaithersburg, MD. Ms. Kim also serves as a court-appointed attorney for misdemeanor cases at the Fairfax County General District Court. In June 2022, Ms. Kim received a pro bono service honor roll certificate of appreciation from the Virginia Supreme Court. In March 2023, Ms. Kim received a Community Service Award from the KCSC for her dedicated service and contribution to the Asian American community.

Since February 2022, Ms. Kim has been writing columns on family law for the Korea Times Washington D.C. Originally from Seoul, South Korea, Ms. Kim is fluent in English and Korean and speaks conversational French. Ms. Kim has been married for 20 years and live in Mclean, VA with her husband and two daughters.
